For her new edition for Spike, Rachel Rose (*1986, USA) catches a shimmering moment of metamorphosis between two egg-shaped objects – blown glass and rock – both formed out of sand. She used pigments, oils, and water to create a darkly abstract egg, emblazoned in dazzling black and white, that appears like an x-ray or early era photograph, glowing with the fiery rays of creation.
Solo exhibitions of her work have taken place at Gladstone Gallery, New York, LUMA Foundation, Arles (both 2022); Lafayette Anticipations, Paris (2020), Fridericianum, Kassel (2019), Philadelphia Museum of Art (2018). Rachel Rose lives in New York.
